M4 closed: Motorway closed in both directions after pedestrian rushed to hospital in horror two-car

THE M4 has been closed in both directions after a pedestrian was rushed to hospital following a horror crash.

The busy motorway has been shut off by emergency services near Margam, Port Talbot, following a crash between a HGV and car in the early hours.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said the crash took place between a white heavy goods vehicle and a blue Kia Venga.

The M4 is expected to be closed "for some time", with cops advising drivers to avoid the area.

A police statement added: "We are investigating a road traffic collision that occurred on the M4 at junction 38 Margam, at approximately 2.15am this morning.

"The M4 at junction 38 is currently closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.

An earlier statement added: "The road is closed westbound at J38 Margam, traffic to exit at the off slip and re-join at J38 on slip.

"Eastbound the road is close from Junction 40-38. Motorists are advised to avoid the area."

Traffic Wales tweeted: "Road remains closed in both directions.

"Westbound J38 Margam - J39 Groes - closed Eastbound J40 Taibach - J38 Margam - closed."
