Mosterton crash: Woman is killed after Mercedes convertible crashes into pedestrians leaving 2 other

A WOMAN has died after a car burst into flames after ploughing into pedestrians in a sleepy village.

A silver Mercedes went on fire after the smash in Mosterton, Dorset, just after 8pm last night.

A man thought to be the driver of the car, reportedly fled the scene. He was later arrested after a police manhunt.

Three pedestrians were airlifted to hospital after the accident. Police have now said that a woman in her 40s has sadly died in hospital.

A woman in her 20s was said by police to be in a critical condition in hospital. A young boy suffered serious injuries that are not life threatening, police said.

A 40-year-old man from Yeovil was located and arrested on suspicion of driving offences before being taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are not believed to be serious.

Sergeant Mark Scammell, from Dorset Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with the loved ones of the woman who sadly died and the injured pedestrians.

“An investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident and I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed what happened, as well as anyone who may have captured the collision or moments leading up to it on dashcam footage, to please come forward.

“I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closure is in place as this allows us to carry out a thorough examination of the scene."
