A HUNT for a young man who was reported missing took a tragic turn when police confirmed they had found his dead body.

Luke Jobson, 22, was found dead more than 48 hours after he was last seen on a night out in Yarm, Cleveland.

What happened to Luke Jobson?

Witnesses claim they saw the trainee engineer running from a gang of lads in the early hours of Saturday, January 26, in Yarm, Cleveland.

It was claimed on social media he had been chased by five men in a Golf GTI who "tried to run him over."

The trainee engineer was then allegedly doused in pepper spray and left in a river.

Luke's aunt, Kelly, had urged people to look in wheelie bins and clothes banks as hundreds joined the search for Luke before they were stood down.

When did he go missing?

Luke was last seen on Saturday, January 26, 2019, in the early hours of the morning.

Luke's aunt, who launched an appeal on social media, said he had not been seen since "around 2am on Friday night".

She added: "Luke needs to be found and needs to be home - FAST, he is 22, he wouldn't hurt a fly, he is popular, happy calm lad that needs to be found ASAP."

Five men have been arrested as police confirm his body was found in a river on January 28, 2019.

Specially trained officers were seen on the water as the River Tees is searched, and public groups walked through 16 local spots to find a trace of Luke.

Cops at Cleveland Police had asked for anyone with private CCTV or dashcam footage in the area to come forward.

A spokesman said: "If anyone has information they believe could help our inquiries please pass this directly to Cleveland Police via the 101 number, quoting Event 14944."
