Superhero fans take over Liverpool as thousands of cosplayers gather for Comic Con

THOUSANDS of comic book fans have descended on Liverpool dressed in elaborate costumes replicating their favourite characters.

Spiderman, Batman, Lara Croft, Harley Quinn and the Joker were just some of the characters on show as cosplayers gathered for Comic Con.

The event is being held over both days this weekend on the banks of the River Mersey with guests including David Soul and Paul Michael – the original Starksy and Hutch.

Joining them are Louise Brealey, best known for playing Molly Hopper on Sherlock, and Peter Davison – the fifth Doctor Who.

Red Dwarf actors Chris Barrie and Danny John Jules also join the line-up which has attracted visitors from across the country.

Among the most eye-catching were a unit of Star Wars bounty hunters, Captain America’s Red Skull and a steampunk fan dressed from head to toe in brass cogs and gadgets.

A parade and best-dressed competition form part of the gathering being held at the city’s exhibition centre.
