World Cup 2018: Gary Lineker's son nicks his 1986 shirt to cheer on England

GARY LINEKER'S son broke into his trophy cabinet to steal his World Cup shirt to cheer England on in Russia.

Lineker claimed the golden boot and became an international star after scoring six goals during Mexico 1986.

And the BBC presenter has kept a jersey from the tournament 28 years ago locked away for safekeeping as a memento of his exploits.

But eldest son George decided England's last-16 clash with Colombia was the ideal time to break it out to wear in support of the Three Lions last night.

George, 26, posted a picture of himself sporting the iconic shirt outside the Spartak Stadum in Moscow before taking in the country's thrilling penalty shoot-out victory over the South Americans.

He wrote on Twitter: "Nicked the old mans 86’ World Cup shirt from his trophy cabinet ... because it’s coming home".

Lineker junior was in the stands to watch Gareth Southgate's side secure a quarter-final place thanks to Eric Dier's spot-kick as the national team finally won a World Cup shoot-out.

And judging by his social media post this morning, George joined thousands of Three Lions fans partying hard after the triumph.

He wrote: "Jesus my head hurts."

While the travelling supporters celebrated in Russia, back home the nation was being swept with World Cup fever.
